BBL vs MOXI.
Which one does your skin need?
If you're bothered by brown spots, sun damage, uneven skin tone or rough texture, you may hear both BBL and MOXI recommended.
Here's the easiest way to understand them:
BBL targets unwanted color.
MOXI resurfaces the skin.
And when your skin has both discoloration and texture concerns, your treatment plan may include both.
Color? Texture? Or both?
Two Sciton technologies. Two different jobs.
You don't need to understand wavelengths or laser physics. You need to understand what each treatment is trying to improve.
Start with what you see when you look in the mirror.
Mostly Brown or Red?
If the dominant concern is selected brown spots, visible sun damage or redness, BBL may be the more direct starting point.
Mostly Texture + Skin Quality?
If you're focused on roughness, early photodamage, uneven-looking tone and fractional resurfacing, MOXI may make more sense.
A Little of Everything?
Many patients have both discoloration and texture changes. That's where combining BBL and MOXI may become useful.
Sometimes the answer isn't BBL or MOXI.
Sun-damaged skin rarely fits neatly into one box. A patient may have brown spots, redness, uneven tone and changes in texture at the same time.
Because BBL and MOXI work differently, they can be used together when clinically appropriate.
BBL addresses selected unwanted color. MOXI adds fractional resurfacing.
That makes the combination useful when the treatment goal is broader than either color correction or resurfacing alone.
You should not have to diagnose your own skin.
The same “brown spot” can mean different things. Redness can have different causes. Pigment disorders such as melasma require more careful treatment planning than ordinary sun spots.
In everyday language: tell us what you'd like to change or improve. We'll determine whether the problem is primarily color, texture, skin quality—or a combination.
Treat the problem—not the treatment name.
BBL and MOXI are tools. The treatment plan starts with your skin.
Identify brown pigment, redness, texture, photodamage and other visible concerns.
Select BBL, MOXI, a combination or another technology according to what needs to be treated.
Evaluate the response and decide whether to repeat, maintain or change the plan.
One device should not be forced onto every concern.
Bolus Med Spa offers multiple technologies for pigment, redness, texture and resurfacing. Treatment planning is overseen by Mark Abbott, MSN, FNP, CRNP, a board-certified nurse practitioner.
Your treatment plan may consider the type of discoloration, texture, skin characteristics, sun exposure, pigment history, previous procedures, healing history and the amount of recovery you're comfortable with.
That may lead to BBL. It may lead to MOXI. It may lead to both—or to a different treatment entirely.

Your skin roadmap may include more than one technology.
Bolus Private Client is designed for patients who value ongoing treatment planning, preferred pricing and coordinated access across skin, laser and injectable treatments. If BBL, MOXI or combination treatments are part of your longer-term plan, ask whether Private Client makes sense for you.

You don't need to choose the treatment yourself. Tell us what you're seeing in your skin and we'll help route you toward the appropriate evaluation.
The questions patients actually ask.
What is the main difference between BBL and MOXI?
BBL is a pulsed-light treatment used to target selected unwanted brown and red color in the skin. MOXI is a fractional laser used for resurfacing and selected tone, texture and skin-quality concerns. An easy way to remember it is: BBL targets color; MOXI resurfaces.
Which is better for brown spots?
It depends on the type of pigmentation. BBL can directly target selected brown pigmentation, while MOXI may also be considered for certain pigment and photodamage concerns as part of a resurfacing strategy. Pigment should be assessed before choosing treatment.
Which is better for skin texture?
MOXI is the fractional resurfacing treatment of the two, so it is more directly associated with improving selected texture and overall skin-quality concerns.
Can I have BBL and MOXI together?
Yes, they may be combined when clinically appropriate. Because the technologies work differently, a combined treatment can address selected discoloration while also adding fractional resurfacing.
Is BBL a laser?
No. BBL uses BroadBand Light and belongs to the pulsed-light treatment category. MOXI is a fractional non-ablative laser.
Which has more downtime?
Visible recovery depends on the settings used and your individual response. BBL and MOXI can produce different post-treatment changes, and treatment intensity can vary. Bolus reviews expected recovery before treatment so the plan fits your schedule.
What if I have melasma?
Melasma requires careful assessment and should not be treated as though it were an ordinary sun spot. Heat, inflammation, hormones and ultraviolet exposure can influence melasma, so treatment selection and expectations need to be individualized.
What if I need more correction than MOXI?
Bolus also offers more corrective resurfacing options, including HALO and CO2-based treatments. The appropriate intensity depends on your concern, skin characteristics and recovery goals.
