Brown spots are not
all the same.
Many benign brown spots are related to cumulative sun exposure and can respond beautifully to light, laser, peels and skincare. But treating every brown patch as the same diagnosis is poor strategy — and some lesions should be medically evaluated before cosmetic treatment.
Bolus uses the treatment that fits the problem rather than forcing every problem into one treatment.
We do not fire a laser at pigment we have not first thought about.
Solar lentigines, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma can overlap visually but need different treatment logic.
Start by separating the variables.
Solar Lentigines
Discrete age spots or sun spots commonly appearing on chronically sun-exposed skin such as the face, chest and hands.
Freckles
Small pigmented macules that can darken with sun exposure and may respond to selected pigment-targeting treatments.
Post-Inflammatory Pigment
Dark marks that remain after acne, irritation or inflammation and require special attention to skin type and inflammation risk.
Melasma
Chronic, recurrence-prone pigment that should not be treated as ordinary sun damage.
Choose the tool by the cause.
BBL HERO
Often an excellent option for selected sun spots, freckles and photodamage in appropriate skin types.
MOXI
1927-nm non-ablative fractional treatment useful for diffuse photodamage, uneven tone and broader skin-quality improvement.
Peels + Skincare
Chemical peels and professional pigment skincare may be used alone or around device-based treatment.
Different treatments do different jobs.
Best when discrete brown pigment and photodamage are appropriate targets for BroadBand Light. Explore BBL HERO →
Useful when pigment is part of a broader field of uneven tone, early photodamage or skin-quality change. Explore MOXI →
May be considered for selected pigment concerns when skin type and post-inflammatory pigment risk influence device selection. Explore Aerolase Neo →
Can help selected epidermal pigment and overall tone. Peel depth must be matched to the patient’s skin and pigment biology. Explore Chemical Peels →
Daily sunscreen and pigment-management products support treatment results and help reduce continued photodamage.
Preparation and recovery should match treatment intensity.
Assess
We evaluate anatomy, skin type, treatment history, priorities and recovery tolerance before recommending treatment.
Prioritize
We identify the change most likely to create meaningful improvement rather than treating everything automatically.
Choose
The technology or injectable is matched to the actual mechanism creating the concern.
Recover
Downtime and aftercare depend on treatment intensity; deeper or more corrective procedures require more structured recovery.
Maintain
Once correction is achieved, treatment can shift toward a maintenance rhythm appropriate to the concern.
Correction is stronger when maintenance is planned from the beginning.
Private Client is the ongoing pathway for patients who want plan-based care, preferred or exclusive pricing and the ability to shift between appropriate treatments as needs change.

What patients usually want to know.
What causes age spots?
Many age spots are solar lentigines related to cumulative ultraviolet exposure. Genetics and individual skin response also influence who develops them.
What is the best treatment for brown spots?
It depends on the diagnosis, skin type and whether the pigment is discrete or diffuse. BBL, MOXI, peels and professional skincare each solve different pigment problems.
Can BBL remove age spots?
BBL can be very effective for selected solar lentigines and photodamage in appropriate candidates. Treated spots often darken temporarily before clearing.
Are brown spots and melasma the same?
No. Melasma is a chronic pigment disorder with different trigger and recurrence behavior.
When should a brown spot be medically evaluated?
New, changing, irregular, bleeding, symptomatic or diagnostically uncertain lesions should be evaluated medically before cosmetic treatment.
