HALO vs Fraxel.
Here's the difference that actually matters.
If you're comparing HALO and Fraxel, you're probably trying to improve something like sun damage, brown spots, uneven texture, fine lines or overall skin quality.
You don't need to become a laser expert to make the right decision. The important question is whether your skin needs lighter treatment, deeper correction, surface resurfacing—or a combination.
One treatment. Two levels of correction.
Some visible skin damage is closer to the surface. Other changes extend deeper.
HALO allows us to treat deeper skin while also performing controlled resurfacing closer to the surface during the same treatment.
They are both fractional lasers. The way they approach the skin is different.
“Fraxel” is a brand name that includes more than one laser technology. The Fraxel system most often compared with HALO is Fraxel DUAL. Here's the patient-friendly version of the difference.
Why someone might choose HALO instead of Fraxel DUAL.
Not because HALO is automatically “better.” It may simply offer a treatment approach that better matches what the patient is trying to correct.
Surface + Deeper Treatment
HALO can combine controlled surface resurfacing with deeper treatment in the same session. That can be useful when visible skin concerns exist at more than one level.
Several Concerns at Once
Patients often don't have just one concern. Brown spots, rough texture, fine lines and overall sun damage may exist together. HALO gives us flexibility to build treatment around that combination.
Customizable Correction
HALO is not one fixed treatment. We can adjust how aggressively we treat according to your skin, the degree of correction needed and the amount of recovery you are willing to accept.
Don't ask, “Which laser wins?” Ask, “What does my skin need?”
A recognizable device name is only the beginning of the decision.
What Do You Want to Change?
Brown spots, sun damage, rough texture, fine lines and scars are not identical problems.
How Much Correction?
A lighter refresh and a more corrective resurfacing treatment should not automatically use the same approach.
How Much Recovery?
The level of treatment should make sense for both your skin and the amount of visible recovery you can accommodate.
What's actually happening under the hood?
You do not need to understand wavelengths to choose a laser. But if you like knowing the technical difference, here's the short version.
In everyday language: Fraxel DUAL uses two non-ablative wavelengths to create controlled treatment within the skin. HALO combines deeper non-ablative treatment with controlled fractional resurfacing of the surface. That hybrid approach is the major technological distinction.
More aggressive isn't automatically better.
The goal is to use enough treatment to meaningfully address the problem without creating unnecessary intensity, recovery or risk.
Identify the actual problem: pigment, texture, lines, scars, sun damage or a combination.
Select the technology and treatment intensity that make sense for the concern.
Evaluate the response before deciding whether to repeat, maintain or move to another treatment.
Why Bolus chose HALO.
Bolus Med Spa offers multiple laser and energy technologies, including HALO, MOXI, BBL, CO2 resurfacing and RF microneedling. That matters because no single device should be forced onto every skin concern.
Treatment planning is overseen by Mark Abbott, MSN, FNP, CRNP, a board-certified nurse practitioner. The goal is to determine what you actually want to improve, then select the treatment strategy that makes sense for your skin.
For deeper resurfacing, preparation, healing history, pigment risk, expected social downtime, aftercare and follow-up become increasingly important parts of the plan.

Build a skin roadmap instead of chasing individual procedures.
Bolus Private Client is designed for patients who value ongoing treatment planning, preferred pricing and coordinated access across skin, laser and injectable treatments. If resurfacing is one part of a larger plan, ask whether Private Client makes sense for you.

You don't need to choose the laser yourself. Tell us your main concern and how much recovery fits your life. We can help route you toward the appropriate evaluation.
The questions patients actually ask.
Is HALO the same as Fraxel?
No. They are different fractional laser platforms. “Fraxel” also refers to a family of laser technologies rather than one universal treatment. HALO is a hybrid fractional laser that combines deeper non-ablative treatment with fractional surface resurfacing.
Which Fraxel is most similar to HALO?
Fraxel DUAL is one of the more relevant comparisons because patients commonly research both for concerns such as sun damage, pigmentation, texture and wrinkles. The technologies are still different and should not be presented as interchangeable.
Why would someone choose HALO instead of Fraxel DUAL?
One reason is HALO's hybrid approach. It allows deeper non-ablative treatment and controlled fractional resurfacing of the surface during the same treatment. That flexibility may be useful when several skin concerns exist together.
Is HALO better than Fraxel?
Not automatically. Both are established approaches to fractional resurfacing. The better treatment depends on the specific technology, your skin, the concern being treated, treatment intensity, provider technique and your recovery goals.
Is HALO good for brown spots and sun damage?
HALO may be considered for selected pigmentation and photodamage concerns as part of an individualized treatment plan. Candidacy and treatment intensity depend on your skin and pigment history.
Can HALO improve texture and fine lines?
HALO is commonly considered when patients want to address a combination of texture, fine lines, uneven tone and signs of photodamage. The amount of improvement varies by patient and treatment plan.
How much downtime does HALO have?
Recovery depends on treatment intensity and individual healing. More corrective treatments generally involve more visible post-treatment changes. Bolus reviews expected social downtime, aftercare and healing before treatment so you can decide whether the plan fits your schedule.
What if HALO is more treatment than I need?
Bolus offers other technologies, including MOXI, BBL and additional resurfacing options. A lighter treatment may make more sense when the concern does not justify a more intensive resurfacing strategy.
