Frown Lines + 11 Lines - Elkridge, Maryland

Frown Lines + 11 Lines
Without Looking Frozen.

Botox and other wrinkle relaxers can soften the lines between the eyebrows by reducing the muscle activity that repeatedly folds the skin.

If people ask whether you are angry, worried or tired when you are not, the lines between your eyebrows may be doing more communicating than you intended.

At Bolus Med Spa, treatment begins with your facial movement, brow position and anatomy. The goal is not to remove expression. It is to reduce excessive contraction while preserving a result that still looks like you.

Why They Form

The line is in the skin. The force starts in the muscle.

Frown lines are often called 11 lines because two vertical creases can form between the eyebrows.

Clinically, they are commonly described as glabellar lines.

Repeated contraction of the corrugator and procerus muscles folds the skin in the glabella. Over time, lines that first appear only during expression may become visible even when your face is relaxed.

That distinction matters because dynamic lines and deeply etched resting lines may require different treatment strategies.

Frown Lines, 11 Lines + Glabellar Lines

Different names. Same area between the brows.

Patients commonly search for frown lines, 11s, eleven lines, lines between the eyebrows or Botox between the brows. Clinically, these are generally referred to as glabellar lines.

01 - Dynamic

Lines With Expression

Early frown lines may appear primarily when you squint, concentrate or pull the eyebrows inward. Reducing selected muscle activity can soften the repeated folding that creates them.

02 - Resting

Lines That Stay

With repeated movement and changes in skin quality, a crease may remain visible even when the muscles are relaxed. Neuromodulator treatment may reduce the muscular force, but an established skin crease may not disappear completely from toxin alone.

03 - Balance

Your Brows Matter

The glabella does not function in isolation. Brow position, forehead activity and asymmetry influence how treatment should be planned. That is why treatment should be mapped to the individual rather than copied from a standard injection pattern.

What Treatment Can Change Or Improve

Soften the frown without erasing your face.

Neuromodulators temporarily reduce selected nerve signaling to treated muscles. When the muscles between the brows contract less forcefully, the overlying skin folds less aggressively.

What it may improve

Visible frown lines during expression, a tense or "angry" appearance between the brows, repetitive skin folding and the depth of some glabellar lines over time.

What it may not completely erase

Deep etched lines that remain at rest, skin texture changes, pigment, laxity or volume loss. Those findings may require time, skincare, resurfacing or another treatment strategy in addition to wrinkle relaxers.

Movement first. Product second.

Bolus offers Botox, Jeuveau, Dysport and Xeomin. These products are not interchangeable unit-for-unit. Product selection and dosing are individualized based on anatomy, movement, prior response, treatment goals and clinical judgment.

Your Treatment At Bolus

A small area can require thoughtful planning.

The glabella influences brow position and expression. We evaluate the entire upper face rather than treating two vertical lines in isolation.

01 - Evaluate

Watch You Move

We evaluate your frown, resting brow position, eyebrow asymmetry, forehead recruitment, muscle strength and any pre-existing eyelid or brow heaviness.

02 - Plan

Choose The Pattern

Injection sites and product are selected according to your anatomy and treatment objective. Some patients want subtle softening. Others want stronger relaxation.

03 - Reassess

Let The Result Develop

The effect develops gradually rather than instantly. We want enough time for the neuromodulator response to declare itself before deciding whether additional treatment is appropriate.

Dynamic Lines vs Etched Lines

Sometimes the muscle is only part of the story.

If your 11 lines are visible even when you are completely relaxed, the skin may have developed a resting crease from years of repeated folding, sun exposure, collagen loss and other skin-aging factors.

Dynamic Frown Lines

Lines that appear mainly during expression often respond particularly well when the underlying muscle activity is appropriately reduced.

Etched Frown Lines

A line that is already carved into the skin may soften after repeated reduction in movement, but resurfacing, collagen-focused treatments or skincare may also be considered depending on the depth and skin quality.

What To Expect

Quick treatment. Gradual change.

Treatment Time

The injection portion is generally brief. Consultation and facial assessment are part of the appointment.

Downtime

Most patients return to normal daily activities immediately. Temporary redness, tenderness, small bumps or bruising can occur.

Onset

Changes often begin within several days. The full effect is not immediate and varies by product and individual response.

Duration

Neuromodulator effects are temporary. Many patients experience results lasting several months, although duration varies with product, dose, muscle strength and individual biology.

Candidacy + Safety

Not everyone should be treated the same way.

A cosmetic injection is still a medical treatment. Your health history, medications, anatomy and prior response matter.

Tell us before treatment if you...

  • Are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Have a known neuromuscular disorder or significant muscle weakness.
  • Have had a prior reaction to a botulinum toxin product.
  • Have an infection, rash or significant inflammation near the proposed injection sites.
  • Take medications that may affect neuromuscular transmission, bleeding or bruising.
  • Have prior eyelid or brow drooping, facial weakness, facial surgery or significant asymmetry.

Potential risks

  • Pain, tenderness, redness, swelling or bruising at injection sites.
  • Headache or temporary discomfort.
  • Asymmetry or an undesired change in expression.
  • Temporary eyebrow or eyelid drooping.
  • Temporary weakness in nearby muscles.
  • Rarely, toxin effects can spread beyond the injection area and cause serious symptoms such as generalized weakness or difficulty speaking, swallowing or breathing.

Clinical evaluation matters.

Wrinkle relaxers should not be selected solely by the number of units someone received elsewhere or by a social-media injection map. Different products have different dosing systems, and the safest treatment pattern depends on the individual face.

Frown Lines FAQ

Questions patients commonly ask.

What are 11 lines?

“11 lines” is a common term for vertical frown lines that form between the eyebrows. Clinically, this area is called the glabella and the lines are often called glabellar lines.

Are frown lines the same as forehead lines?

No. Frown lines are primarily between the eyebrows, while forehead lines run horizontally across the forehead. The muscles and treatment strategy differ, although both areas influence brow position and may be assessed together.

Can Botox remove deep 11 lines completely?

Not always. Neuromodulators reduce the muscle contraction that repeatedly folds the skin. A deeply etched crease that remains visible at rest may soften but can persist even when muscle movement is reduced. Skin-focused treatment may also be considered.

Will treating my 11 lines make me look frozen?

That is not the objective at Bolus. Treatment is planned around your muscle strength, brow position and desired degree of movement. Some patients prefer subtle softening while others prefer stronger relaxation.

How quickly will I see a change?

The effect develops gradually. Many patients begin noticing changes within several days, with additional change over the following days. Onset varies by product and individual response.

How long do wrinkle relaxers last in the frown lines?

Results are temporary. Many patients experience improvement for several months, but duration varies with the product used, treatment dose, muscle strength, metabolism and individual response.

Which is better for 11 lines: Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin?

There is no single best product for every patient. Each product has its own formulation and dosing system. Product selection is based on anatomy, treatment goals, prior response, clinical judgment and patient preference when appropriate.

Can I treat just the frown lines without treating my forehead?

Sometimes. The decision depends on your movement pattern, brow position and goals. The glabella and forehead interact mechanically, so both areas should be assessed even when only one area is ultimately treated.

What are the main risks?

Potential effects include injection-site discomfort, redness, swelling, bruising, headache, asymmetry, temporary weakness of nearby muscles and temporary brow or eyelid drooping. Rare serious reactions can occur. Your clinician will review relevant risks and contraindications before treatment.

How do I know whether I need wrinkle relaxer or a skin treatment?

If the line appears mainly when you frown, muscle activity may be the dominant driver. If the line is deeply visible at rest, both muscle activity and the condition of the skin may contribute. Evaluation helps determine whether wrinkle relaxer alone or a combination approach makes more sense.
