VirtueRF Microneedling • Elkridge / Columbia, Maryland

Go deeper when your skin needs more remodeling.

RF microneedling combines microneedling with controlled radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen at deeper levels than traditional pen microneedling.

We use VirtueRF when the goal includes deeper collagen remodeling, improvement in selected acne scars, texture, early skin laxity and overall firmness—while keeping expectations realistic.

What Patients Usually Want To Know

RF microneedling is not simply “a stronger pen.”

The treatments work at different depths and are chosen for different goals. Traditional pen microneedling is excellent for surface texture and overall skin quality. RF microneedling adds controlled heat deeper in the skin when we want more collagen remodeling and tightening.

What RF Microneedling Can Improve

Think collagen, texture and firmness.

RF microneedling can be used both correctively and preventatively depending on your skin, age, goals and treatment history.

Acne ScarsSelected rolling, boxcar and textural acne scars may benefit—often as one part of a combination plan.
Skin LaxityUseful for early looseness and crepey quality when the goal is collagen remodeling rather than surgical correction.
Texture + PoresImproves irregular texture and overall skin quality while working deeper than pen microneedling alone.
Preventative CareCan be incorporated before advanced laxity develops to support collagen and maintain skin quality over time.
RF Microneedling vs. Pen Microneedling

What's actually different?

This is one of the most common questions we hear. The simplest answer is depth and treatment goal.

Traditional Pen Microneedling

EnergyMechanical micro-injury only. No radiofrequency heat.
FocusMore surface-focused improvement in texture, pores, fine lines, selected scars and overall skin quality.
Great ForMaintenance, glow, texture, preventative collagen support and patients who do not need deeper thermal remodeling.
ThinkSurface texture + skin quality.

VirtueRF Microneedling

EnergyMicroneedles deliver controlled radiofrequency energy at selected depths.
FocusDeeper collagen remodeling, greater emphasis on firmness, early laxity and selected acne-scar patterns.
Great ForPatients who need more remodeling than a surface-focused pen treatment but do not necessarily need laser resurfacing or surgery.
ThinkDeeper collagen + tightening.
Neither treatment is automatically “better.” The right choice depends on the layer of the skin we are trying to improve and the degree of correction you actually need.
Realistic Expectations

Powerful treatment. Honest limits.

We would rather tell you what RF microneedling cannot do than sell you the wrong treatment.

It does not replace a laser.

Some acne scars, surface irregularities, pigment problems and deeper textural defects need laser resurfacing such as HALO, CO₂ or Erbium. RF microneedling may complement those treatments, but it does not make them unnecessary.

It does not replace a facelift.

If you have significant jowling, advanced facial laxity or substantial neck laxity, RF microneedling will not reproduce the result of a surgical face or neck lift.

It can be excellent before you get there.

Preventative RF microneedling can support collagen and skin quality before advanced laxity develops. It can also be useful when your concern is real—but not surgical.

3–5
Treatments May Be Recommended

Then periodic maintenance based on your skin, response and goals.

Treatment Planning

Collagen remodeling takes time.

RF microneedling is usually not a one-and-done treatment when the goal is meaningful correction. A series of approximately 3–5 treatments may be recommended, followed by maintenance as appropriate.

The exact number depends on your age, skin quality, scar pattern, degree of laxity, previous procedures and what we are trying to accomplish. Preventative patients may need a very different plan from someone treating acne scars or visible laxity.

Acne Scar Treatment

Acne scars rarely need just one tool.

Scar architecture matters. Rolling scars, tethered scars, ice-pick scars, boxcar scars and surface texture do not necessarily respond to the same procedure.

Combination treatment matters.

VirtueRF can be an important part of an acne-scar plan, but the best sequence depends on what is physically creating the scar. We first identify the scar pattern, then assign each treatment a specific job.

1 • Release

Free tethered scars

Subcision may be used when fibrous attachments are pulling rolling or tethered scars downward.

2 • Treat Focal Depth

Target narrow deep scars

TCA CROSS is a focal technique often considered for selected ice-pick and narrow deep scars.

3 • Remodel + Resurface

Improve the surrounding skin

VirtueRF, HALO, CO₂, Erbium or traditional microneedling may be sequenced depending on depth, texture and the degree of resurfacing needed.

The point is not to use every treatment. The point is to identify the scar architecture first and then choose—or sequence—the technologies that match it.

The Technology We Use

VirtueRF.

VirtueRF allows treatment depth and radiofrequency energy to be customized based on the area, skin and treatment objective. That flexibility is important because the same settings should not be used for every patient or every concern.

The device is only one part of the treatment.

Needle depth, energy, passes, treatment area, skin type, prior procedures and the overall sequence of care all matter. For acne scars especially, choosing the correct combination is often more important than simply choosing the most aggressive setting.

Recovery

What should I expect?

Recovery varies with treatment intensity and your skin, but functional downtime is generally manageable.

Before treatmentTopical numbing is typically used before RF microneedling.
Immediately afterRedness, warmth, swelling and a treated appearance are expected.
Next few daysRedness, mild swelling, sensitivity, dryness, pinpoint crusting or rough texture may occur while the skin settles.
ResultsSkin quality can continue to improve as collagen remodeling develops over the following weeks and months.

RF Microneedling FAQs

What patients usually ask.

What's the difference between RF microneedling and regular pen microneedling?

Traditional pen microneedling focuses primarily on mechanical micro-injury and is excellent for surface texture, pores, selected scars, maintenance and overall skin quality. RF microneedling adds controlled radiofrequency energy at selected depths, allowing us to place greater emphasis on deeper collagen remodeling and tightening.

Does RF microneedling replace HALO, CO₂ or Erbium laser resurfacing?

No. Some acne scars and textural problems require true laser resurfacing. RF microneedling can complement laser treatment, but it does not eliminate the need for resurfacing when resurfacing is what the skin actually needs.

Can RF microneedling replace a facelift or neck lift?

No. RF microneedling may improve early laxity and skin quality, but significant jowls, facial laxity or neck laxity may require surgical correction to achieve a true lifting result.

How many treatments will I need?

A series of approximately 3–5 treatments may be recommended for correction, followed by maintenance as appropriate. The exact plan depends on your concern, age, skin quality, scar pattern, response and goals.

Can RF microneedling be used preventatively?

Yes. RF microneedling can be incorporated into a preventative skin plan to support collagen and firmness before advanced laxity develops. Preventative treatment frequency is individualized.

Why might acne scars need more than RF microneedling?

Different scar types have different structural causes. Tethered scars may need subcision, ice-pick scars may need focal techniques such as TCA CROSS, and surface irregularity may benefit from HALO, CO₂ or Erbium resurfacing. RF microneedling can be one part of that larger strategy.

Choose the treatment your skin actually needs.

Sometimes that is VirtueRF. Sometimes it's traditional microneedling, laser resurfacing, scar-specific treatment—or a combination over time. The goal is the right plan, not simply the most aggressive procedure.
