Dysport® · Elkridge / Columbia, Maryland

Dysport®
with context.

The number on the syringe only makes sense when you know which product is in it.

Dysport is a prescription botulinum toxin type A neuromodulator used to temporarily improve moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

At Bolus Med Spa, Dysport is selected and dosed according to the product itself, your anatomy, muscle activity, previous response and treatment goals.

The Dysport Difference

100 units isn't always 100 units.

Dysport uses its own product-specific potency units. A patient who received 100 Dysport units did not receive the same treatment as someone who received 100 Botox units.

Different Product AbobotulinumtoxinA.
Different Units Not interchangeable unit-for-unit.
Dose Matters Product-specific dosing matters.
Strategy Matters The whole treatment plan matters.
Not All Toxin Treatments Are Equal

The vial is only the beginning.

A neuromodulator treatment depends on the product, dose, anatomy and treatment strategy—not merely the brand name.

01

Prescription Medication

Dysport is abobotulinumtoxinA, a prescription botulinum toxin type A product.

02

Product-Specific Units

Dysport potency units are specific to Dysport and cannot simply be substituted one-for-one for another toxin's units.

03

Technique Matters

Anatomy, placement, reconstitution and administration technique all contribute to treatment.

04

Your Response Matters

Previous product, treatment pattern, movement and duration help guide future treatment.

Dysport vs. Botox

This is where patients get confused.

Dysport and Botox do not use directly interchangeable potency units.

For example, the FDA-approved Dysport treatment for moderate-to-severe glabellar lines uses 50 Dysport units divided across five injection sites.

By comparison, Botox Cosmetic uses a different product-specific unit system.

So 100 Dysport units should never be read as “100 Botox units.”

Common Clinical Comparison
≈ 2.5 : 1

Published aesthetic studies have used approximately 2.5 Dysport units for every 1 Botox unit when comparing certain facial treatments.

Important: This is a clinical comparison convention—not an FDA-approved conversion formula. Dysport labeling specifically states that its potency units are product-specific and cannot be directly converted into the units of another botulinum toxin product.
Treatment Strategy

Natural means balanced.

The goal is not simply to count units. The goal is to determine which muscles should be treated and how the dose should be distributed across the face.

Upper Face Focus

A customized upper-face treatment.

Depending on anatomy and goals, treatment may involve selected upper-face muscle groups.

  • Forehead Lines
  • Frown Lines / 11s
  • Brow Positioning
  • Crow's Feet when appropriate
Advanced Facial Balancing

More than the 11s.

Neuromodulators may be used strategically throughout the face and neck when clinically appropriate.

  • Brow Support
  • Crow's Feet
  • Lower Eyelid
  • Bunny Lines
  • Lip Flip
  • DAO / Downturned Mouth
  • Chin / Mentalis
  • Platysma + Neck
Important: Dysport's FDA-approved cosmetic indication is moderate-to-severe glabellar lines in adults. Cosmetic use in other facial or neck areas is off-label and may be considered when clinically appropriate.
Facial Balance

Dose doesn't exist in a vacuum.

A number of units doesn't tell the whole story.

We need to know which product was used, which muscles were treated, how the dose was distributed and how your face responded.

That information is much more useful than simply asking whether you previously received “50 units” or “100 units.”

The product, the dose and where it goes all matter.
Transparent Pricing

Simple neurotoxin pricing.

You don't need to calculate packages or guess which promotion applies. Your treatment plan is based on the product and dose actually appropriate for you.

Public / Retail

Standard

$15 / unit

Standard Botox-equivalent neurotoxin pricing.

Private Client

Foundation

$10 / unit

Preferred neurotoxin pricing for Foundation Private Clients.

Private Client

A note about Dysport®: Dysport uses its own product-specific potency units and should not be compared unit-for-unit with Botox®, Jeuveau®, or Xeomin®. When Dysport is selected, treatment quantity and pricing are calculated according to the appropriate Dysport dose rather than assuming that one Dysport unit equals one Botox-equivalent unit.
Your Injector

Consistency matters.

Mark Abbott, MSN, FNP, CRNP

Neuromodulator treatments at Bolus Med Spa are performed by Mark Abbott, a board-certified nurse practitioner.

Your previous dose, product, treatment pattern, facial response and preferences can help guide subsequent treatment.

The objective isn't to perform the same injection pattern on every patient. It's to understand your face and your response over time.

Prescription Treatment

Aesthetic doesn't mean risk-free.

Dysport is a prescription medication. Appropriate patient selection, medical history, anatomy, dosing and administration matter.

Important Dysport Safety Information

Dysport carries an FDA Boxed Warning regarding distant spread of botulinum toxin effect.

Effects may spread from the injection area and produce symptoms consistent with botulinum toxin effects hours to weeks after injection. Swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life-threatening, and deaths have been reported.

Patients should seek immediate medical attention for difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing.

Other contraindications, warnings, precautions, adverse reactions and drug interactions apply.

Dysport FAQ

Questions before treatment?

What is Dysport?

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription botulinum toxin type A product. Its FDA-approved cosmetic indication is the temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines in adults.

Is 100 units of Dysport the same as 100 units of Botox?

No. Dysport and Botox use product-specific potency units and should not be compared unit-for-unit. Dysport's prescribing information specifically states that Dysport units cannot be directly converted into units of another botulinum toxin product.

What is the Dysport-to-Botox conversion?

There is no FDA-approved conversion formula. In published aesthetic research, ratios around 2.5 Dysport units to 1 Botox unit have been used for certain facial comparisons. This should be treated as a clinical reference rather than a universal conversion rule because dose and response vary by product, indication and patient.

Why does Dysport use more units?

Because a Dysport unit is not the same potency unit as a Botox, Jeuveau or Xeomin unit. A larger Dysport unit number does not automatically mean the patient is receiving “more toxin” or a stronger treatment.

How many Dysport units are FDA-approved for frown lines?

The FDA-labeled Dysport dose for moderate-to-severe glabellar lines in adults is 50 Dysport units divided into five injection sites.

How much does Dysport cost at Bolus?

Bolus uses standardized Botox-equivalent neurotoxin pricing: $15 per Botox-equivalent unit for public/retail treatment, $10 per unit for Foundation Private Clients, and $9 per unit for Elevated Private Clients. Because Dysport uses its own potency units, the Dysport quantity is calculated according to the appropriate Dysport dose rather than charged as though every Dysport unit were equivalent to a Botox unit.

How long does Dysport last?

Duration varies among patients. The Dysport prescribing information notes that clinical effect for glabellar lines may last up to four months. Individual response can vary according to dose, anatomy, muscle activity and treatment history.

Can Dysport be used outside the frown lines?

Dysport's FDA-approved cosmetic indication is glabellar lines. Clinicians may use prescription medications off-label in other facial or neck areas when clinically appropriate after discussing the treatment, alternatives and relevant risks.
